Foundina

2025

Rugged and untouched, isolated and wild, natural and speckled with tiny pieces of plastic.

Our love affair with oil has taken humans to many dizzying heights and allowed us ‘progress’ on a scale we could never have conceived of only a few hundred years ago, however as we look to our next throw-away item, the biodiversity collapse in front of us is something we cannot deny.

Foundina is a series whose focus is decaying decadence. This ring is created to highligh t our obsession with wealth and the refuse left in its aftermath. It is designed to sit between the fingers, creating an interplay between adornment and restriction. Fine and carefully finished, it draws on classic jewellery making techniques to stone-set microplastics – a hybrid of beauty in the abject.

When flipped upside down, the intricate network of settings resembles coral. I hand-engraved leaves onto these branches to further enrich this organic form. This duality reflects our current reality – where nature and human impact are inseparably intertwined.
